Libertarian Gubernatorial Candidate Comments on Tancredo’s Entry in the Race

(Centennial) – As a Libertarian candidate for governor in Colorado, I have watched with amusement and wonder at the hand wringing that Republicans have gone through over the past two weeks with the entry of Tom Tancredo in the governor’s race.

Republicans have come out of the woodwork to condemn Tancredo for “splitting the vote”, being a “spoiler” or “wasting your vote”. As a Libertarian, we are typically painted with those descriptions, whether it is the perceived taking of votes from Republicans or Democrats.

The old saying “if you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always got” applies here. People ought to vote for the best candidate, regardless of party affiliation.

To address this issue, Libertarians have been promoting awareness of “approval voting”. Approval voting allows you to vote for multiple candidates. The candidate with the most votes wins. Pretty simple. This method allows you to vote for your favorite candidate, but also vote for the other “lesser of the evils” if you think that you could prevent the worst candidates from winning.

The whole issue of Tancredo in this race would be a moot point for the Republicans, with approval voting. Plurality voting splits the vote of similar ideologies. Approval voting would encourage the nearly 50% of eligible voters who don’t bother voting because the two parties do not represent them.

Tancredo can only raise the level of the Governor debate, which I welcome with open arms.

For folks wanting to concentrate on the issues, my campaign remains focused on the following:

End the fighting amongst ourselves and learn to grow. Colorado can become a top producer with hemp combined with ending the violation of civil liberty, state sovereignty and individual rights known as the Drug War. Colorado needs fewer laws, not more prisons. Coloradan’s have a Constitutional right to marijuana as medicine and therefore a US 10th Amendment right to create value through agriculture. We have tri-partisan support. Legalizing industrial hemp is a no-brainer. Creating jobs and innovation begins with production. Land, Labor, Capital…Environment, Energy, Enterprise. Our own policies are standing in our way.

I favor a balanced budget funded only through sales tax.

Victimless Crimes; lowest priority

Force and Fraud; highest priority

Solve Immigration

End Income Taxation

and the Drug War Invasion

Accountability, Credibility, Transparency

Why It Would Be Easy to Give Up

I believe myself to be a fairly intelligent, responsible, and caring individual.  What is disheartening is the amount of rejection one can face when standing up for what is right and what entails liberty and freedom.

In working with various political parties, I have been appalled at the lethargic nature of the political machine.  I am also disgusted with how I am treated incompetent because I am a young female.  Albeit not all of the time, unfortunately these attitudes persist in our society and are detrimental to progress as a nation.  I AM the Next Generation of Leaders.

I believe that most political parties are doomed to ever making something truly happen for the people.  The reason is because they in themselves are political machines with predetermined motives and agendas.  Even the Libertarian Party, of which I am a huge fan, is so wrapped up in its own incredulous image of itself that they miss opportunities, and do not embrace people who would make excellent mouth-pieces for them.

It would be easy to quit.  But saving a country and an economy is not for the faint of heart.  I promise to you, whoever reads this, that there are enough of us fighting to get our country back – without the power of any political party or machine.  It is up to the people – period.

Colorado District 3 Congressional candidate Gregory Gilman to attend and speak at the Pre-Independence Day Tea Party Rally in La Junta, Colorado

Congressional Candidate Gregory Gilman is traveling across the State meeting with voters of Colorado’s Third Congressional District. In discussing the current political environment, Mr. Gilman said, “The people of this State are frustrated and angry at Congress. There is a sense of hopelessness. Our elected officials have not lived up to the expectations of the electorate.” Offering solutions instead of rhetoric Mr. Gilman replied, “We must come together to form a powerful coalition to take control of our Federal Government, I see the Libertarian Party as the vehicle to form that coalition. It is only when we have a majority will we be able to return this government to the People.”

Gregory Gilman will speak at the rally in La Junta, Colorado on Saturday July 3, 2010. He supports the philosophy of smaller government, personal responsibility and economic freedom. In discussing the Libertarian Party he stated, “The two party system is the greatest threat to our Liberty. As more people become disenchanted we will see the rise of alternative ideas and solutions. Look at the track record and the current state of affairs. We cannot continue on the current path.”

About Gregory Gilman: Gregory Gilman is native of Colorado and an Electrical Engineering graduate of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. A Stanford University Fellow with more than 20 years of engineering and management experience. We hope you have been paying attention to what bills and issues are looked at in the House and Senate, because there is a positive correlation with when politicians are up for election – if there are contentious issues that may cost them seats, these bills are sent to the back-burner.  If there is an issue that will win them votes, then it is time for a marketing campaign!

Unfortunately, we have a whole lot of politicking and very little representation.  We like to remain optimistic, but it is easy to see that bad things happen when there are not checks and balances (hence our constitution and the separation of powers which are so important to protect).

Have you heard anything about the “Boss Tweed Era”?  It is a classic example of politicking and bullying – something that we must be cognizant of at all levels of politics.  We need representatives that protect liberty and protect our constitution – period.

There are many great events and organizations rising to the occasion, and we commend them!  Be sure to check out these people and groups that are making strides to protect our liberties, and be wary of the politics in play (find many of them in our blogroll).

Let’s find people who represent WE THE PEOPLE versus worry about covering their own tails.  See Get Out Of Our House (GOOOH) for more information.

Political Party Elites Better Take Notice!

By Steve Thompson

Get ready for a new type of politician. Bob McConnell is running for Congress representing the 3rd district in Colorado – and he is not alone.  Just about everyone agrees that real change in Washington requires new non-career politicians.  The arguments have been made regarding experience and “seasoned” career-seeking politicians, however the people of our great country are just not buying into that brand of ongoing unsuccessful results. We the people are demanding better results and better-qualified candidates like McConnell.

I had heard a radio interview with McConnell a few months ago and really liked what he had to say – a diverse and interesting guy.  He’s got it all, recovering lawyer, former soldier, practical environmentalist, family-man, with a demonstrated spirit and passion to stand by his words with actions.  The interview worked, I was hooked and wanted to know more.

I am one of those Independent voters that the two traditional parties hate (the Independents who actually make the difference regarding who gets elected).   Many people tell me that I’m wasting my vote and both parties remind me that “I” (with my vote) am why the opposition gets into power.  Obviously, both sides think I am on their side and not the other.  Therein lies the problem, they don’t want to accept I don’t support either of them and millions of voters don’t…yes, millions of us.
